I got back to campus this evening after spending the past two days shooting in NYC, and couldn't tear myself away from sorting through all the footage. I'm excited about it! There are a handful of shots that could have been better and that I wish I had pushed more in the moment; but all in all, I think I have what I need. While the final product will take a few weeks to finish (I have one more shoot in Boston and then a whole lotta editing ahead of me), I screenshot-ed a bunch of film stills to put up on my bedroom walls in order to continue thinking about the visuals and prep for editing. And, of course, to show off to whomever will look at them with me.
See below for a sneak peek:
And that's about it! I also went crazy this morning before leaving and took around a hundred short videos around my grandfather's house. It became a fun exercise in exploration and re-seeing a familiar space, and I appreciated the chance to look at things with a photographic eye, as opposed to with a sensibility for the moving image, as this whole shoot has involved. I think I'll be able to use three to five of them under sound of Buddhist chanting as an intro to this little episodic memory (which is everything the above stills illustrate), which is nice. Yay! Excited to have gotten away and to have clear products to show for my time!
The end :)
